Ohio may not boast many mountain views, but what it lacks in altitude, it more than makes up for in gorgeous landscapes. One of our favorite lookout trails can be found in the Christmas Rocks State Nature Preserve. It's a meandering pathway that will take you through the woods and eventually to one of the best lookouts in Ohio. Here's more on why Jacob's Ladder Trail belongs on your outdoor itinerary. So lace up those hiking boots and let's get started!
Anyone up for a challenging hike with a great pay-off will find a lot to love about the Jacob's Ladder Trail at Christmas Rocks State Nature Preserve.
It's a trail that's popular year-round, but definitely less crowded during the off-season. The 4.5-mile trek can get muddy after rain or snow, so be sure to plan accordingly.
So what can you expect along this trail? Lots of ancient and fascinating rock formations...
...towering hardwood trees...
...and finally, one of the very best lookouts in Ohio. Hikers agree that there are few lookouts that are as dramatic, expansive, and breathtaking.
The entire trail takes about two and a half hours to complete, but be sure to factor in extra time to admire the views along the way.
So the next time you're looking for a trail that comes with a major reward, Jacob's Ladder Trail might just be the ticket. Doesn't this scene look like something from a painting?
