Ohio is a magical place. Here in the Buckeye State, you'll find everything from tree tunnels to hobbit holes - and hiking spots that truly make you feel like you've stepped foot inside a Lord of the Rings film. If you've yet to explore the gorges of Old Man's Cave in Ohio's Hocking Hills State Park, you're missing out on what is arguably the most breathtaking place in Ohio.
Deep in the gorges of the Hocking Hills are seemingly endless amounts of moss covered trees, unique rock formations and alluring stone staircases.
Most of the trails are less than five miles round-trip, giving you plenty of time to take in the beauty and serenity surrounding you.
Along the way, you'll travel across several scenic bridges that feature some great photo opportunities...
...but the most picturesque ones by far are the stone bridges.
Enchanting stone stairways lead you from landmark to landmark. Old Man's Cave is one of the most popular sights along the trails.
Legend has it, a 19th-century hermit who once lived in the cave, (named Richard Rowe) is buried under a cave ledge in the area.
The overlooking view from inside Old Man's Cave is simply stunning.

There are also several tunnels that lead down into the cave...
...and they'll bring out your adventurous side. (Or cautious side.)
But don't forget to look up. Because the view of the gorge from below is absolutely breathtaking.
Several trails even lead to some pretty impressive waterfalls, (which are most powerful in the spring months.)
Pictured is the enchanting Cedar Falls. It's a must-see after you've passed through Old Man's Cave.
