Longer days mean more time to get outside and enjoy the day! In Ohio, there are many beautiful parks and nature areas to explore but one state park always keeps us coming back. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park in western Ohio is a gorgeous park full of fun activities. From boating and fishing to putt putt golfing, this park has it all. After spending a weekend camping at Grand Lake St. Marys State park you may never want to go home.
Constructed in 1845, Grand Lake was a reservoir for the Miami and Erie Canal. By the 1890s the area was being drilled for oil. Luckily, in 1949 the state parks system took over the area. Now Grand Lake St. Marys is one of the state's oldest parks.
Camping is a very popular activity at Grand Lake St. Marys. Many Ohio families return every summer for fun camping weekends. Visitors can pitch a tent, bring their RV, or rent one of the on-site cabins.
There is so much to do around the park. There are multiple playgrounds, a mini golf course, four public beaches, and a new pool with an awesome waterslide!
Hikers and bikers have multiple trails to explore. The three trails in the park are short but you can also connect to the longer Miami Erie Trail, Buckeye Trail, or North Country Scenic Trail.
There is nothing better than spending a warm spring day fishing with family. Cast a line from shore or boat out to the perfect spot.
