Ohioans know that their state is an absolute treat in the autumn months. Locals start to crave pumpkin spice and apple flavor as soon as the air has a particular crispness, and Ohioans begin to anticipate the spectacular spread of color across state forests. However, any and every Ohio resident can tell you that the state weather is unpredictable... and so, too, is the arrival of fall foliage. If you're wondering where and when to see fall colors in the Buckeye State this year, you'll want to check out the Ohio fall foliage map from Smoky Mountains.
The Fall Foliage Prediction Map is an interactive tool that predicts when and where the peak fall foliage will be across the U.S. The map shows the predictions for when fall foliage is expected to be visible throughout most of the state. According to the map, the leaves in Ohio begin to approach their peak at the beginning of October.
By dragging the date forward on the Ohio fall foliage prediction map, you'll notice that much of Ohio will just be experiencing the greatest changes near the tail end of October.
The northeast portion of Ohio will be partially changed during this time. The southernmost reaches of the state will just barely be changing, and quite a bit of greenery will be lingering about.
The beginning of peak foliage in Ohio is expected to happen by the week of October 17, in the northeastern corner of the state.
Much of the state's northern half will, however, be approaching near peak foliage at this time.
By the end of October, most of Ohio will be at its peak, with the northern half of Ohio experiencing post-peak colors. The southern tip of the state is expected to be at peak colors during this time.
If you're in northeast Ohio around peak time, the best place to see the most fall foliage is within Cuyahoga National Park.
And if you're lucky enough to get a ticket in time, we recommend taking the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad through the park. For boarding locations, scheduling, and ticket information, visit the national park website.
