Sometimes, all you need in life is a weekend at the lake.
From the shores of Lake Erie to the little-known lakes tucked away in state parks, there's likely a picture perfect lake getaway less than an hour away from you. Ohio is full of gorgeous lakes that make great campsites, fishing spots and serene places to clear your mind. The following are 11 of our favorite lake trips. Take as many as you can this summer!
1. Indian Lake
Indian Lake State Park in Lakeview, Ohio features a truly special campground locals love and visitors are pleasantly surprised with. With a manmade waterway you can camp right next to, Indian Lake State Park takes camping to a whole other level. This beautiful, 800-acre park is a peaceful place to get away with the family. 2. Mineral Springs Lake
Tucked away in Adams County, you’ll find the hidden gem of Mineral Springs Lake, a picturesque lake fed by natural spring water that’s loaded with nature’s healthy minerals. The lake covers more than 100 aces with five and a half miles of peaceful shoreline.
3. Portage Lakes
If fishing is one of your favorite summer activities, then this is your ideal lake. Largemouth bass abound within these six lakes, which cover 2,000 acres and stretch for more than six miles of shoreline in Summit County.
4. Mosquito Lake
Mosquito Lake State Park offers two yurts available for rent from April 1 to October 31. Each features a large wooden deck with a view of the lake, two futon bunk beds, a small refrigerator, microwave, small table and an outdoor grill and picnic table. 5. Silver Lake
Natural Springs Resort in New Paris, Ohio is a lesser-known gem that features a beautiful, spring-fed lake. It’s the picture perfect place to take a dip on a sunny day or camp for the weekend. The gorgeous spring-fed Silver Lake makes a fun swimming hole for visitors and campers alike. It's surrounded by beautiful rock formations that are remnants of the resort's quarry days. 6. Tappan Lake
Near a restored Indian village at Shoenbrunn State Park and the outdoor historical drama, "Trumpet in the Land," Tappan Lake serves as a popular camping destination. While you're here, be sure to check out the Moravian Trail Scenic Byway in addition to the usual camping activities available here such as boating, swimming and hiking. 7. Rocky Fork Lake
Lakeside camping, paddle boat rentals, fishing and swimming are popular activities at Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro. If you can't stay for the weekend, spend a day on the lake's beach. You'll find it at 9800 N Shore Dr., Hillsboro, OH 45133.
8. Rose Lake
Just outside of one of Ohio's most beloved hiking spots (Old Man's Cave) is the Hocking Hills Reservoir, locally named Rose Lake. It is a truly serene spot that's perfect for a peaceful canoe or kayak adventure.

9. Lake Erie (Geneva State Park)
With a nearby lodge and deluxe cedar cabins, this family favorite state park has several overnight accommodations. But with such stunning views of Lake Erie, why not pitch a tent? Geneva State Park is located at 4499 Padanarum Rd., Geneva, OH 44041.
10. Lake Erie (Kelleys Island)
Perhaps one of the most beautiful and underrated campgrounds in Ohio is Kelleys Island State Park. With stunning views of Lake Erie and ancient ruins to explore, this beautiful campground almost makes you forget you’re in Ohio. Both primitive and RV camping is permitted here, with 42 non-electric sites and 82 electric sites. (There are two Rent-A-Camp units and tow yurts available as well.) 11. Lake Hope
Within the 26,824-acre Zaleski State Forest in McArthur, you'll find the quiet, peaceful Lake Hope State Park and its little-known beach. The state park is located at 27331 OH-278, McArthur, OH 45651.
