We've all heard the rumors and the stereotypes - North Dakota in the winter is just a wasteland of snow and temperatures no one should have to endure. We North Dakotans can deny it all we want, but we know deep down that it's true. We'll brag about the type of extreme cold we experience and give other states a hard time when they shut down over an inch of snow, but it's just because we want to feel better about how much worse it is here.
The truth is, no one would want to be in this state during the seemingly endless winters, let alone visit it. It's probably the last place you'd want to visit in this season, and if you need some more convincing as to why it's the actual worst, here is a list:
1. The landscape becomes ugly to look at.
If you like the color of stark white, I guess you might find North Dakota's winter landscape acceptable. The snow just makes everything lose its natural beauty.
2. Other than snow and cold temperatures, nature shuts down and nothing cool happens.
There isn't any neat natural phenomena that happen or anything - it's like time freezes along with the actual outdoors.
3. And that includes wildlife - good luck seeing any here in the winter.
All the animals disappear into hibernation or head south for the winter, and it's a good idea if you do the same.
4. It's not like you could even get around when there's snow on the ground. Transportation comes to a halt.
There is simply no way to get around in the winter! The roads close and the fun stops.
5. There is simply no way to enjoy the outdoors in North Dakota when this season rolls around.
You're better off just staying indoors, there's nothing for you out there.
6. Camping in the winter? Yeah right, not happening.
There is simply no way. Besides, it's not like you could do anything even if you did camp. How are you supposed to traverse the trails when they're covered in snow?
7. North Dakotans love fishing, but you can kiss that goodbye once the lakes freeze over.
In the summer the lakes are teeming with people and fish, but in the winter all of the bodies of water here just look devoid of life entirely.
8. No one ever leaves their houses in the winter and there are no fun events to bring people together.
Why would there be? It's 20 below outside. No one in their right mind would endure that when they can just sit at home.
9. Seriously, there is no way to have fun here in the winter.
There's just nothing to do out there as soon as the landscape turns frosty.
10. It's no wonder why so many North Dakotans head south for winter. They have the right idea to leave this ugly place.
We have quite a few "snowbirds" here, and it's no wonder why. You're better off catching that flight to Arizona or Florida.
Seriously, if this doesn't scare you away from visiting North Dakota in the winter then I don't know what will. It's obviously an awful idea, and if you need more proof you'll have to check out these 7 Awesome Places You Must Visit In North Dakota This Winter.
Just in case you haven't figured it out by now, this was entirely sarcastic - North Dakotans know how great it is here in the winter. If you disagree, you're missing out and will just have to experience it for yourself!
