It is formed by an underground spring that gives it its name: Mineral Springs Waterfall. To get to it, you have to go on a short day hike through some beautiful forests and it is absolutely worth it.
The waterfall is located in the Sheyenne State Forest and can be reached by taking the North Country Trail.
The North Country Trail is part of a trail system that goes all the way from New York to North Dakota. Its ND section begins in Wahpeton and ends at Lake Sakakawea. On its way there, it passes primarily through the Sheyenne National Grassland and the Sheyenne State Forest. It is the only trail system with a trail leading to the waterfall. You don't have to start in Wahpeton to get there, though. You can begin at the Martinson Bridge trailhead about 10 miles west of Lisbon.
