1. Beaver Lake
The scenic Beaver Lake is located between Wishek and Napoleon, North Dakota. A state park surrounding the lake makes it the perfect summer day destination. It maintains a lovely swimming beach, trails, campgrounds, and more.
2. Lake Metigoshe
Way up north in the Turtle Mountains is the gorgeous Lake Metigoshe. This place is as picturesque as they come, which may be why it's such a popular recreational getaway. Kayaking and canoeing on the lake are popular, but you can also jump in yourself and enjoy the cool, blue waters.

Lake Renwick, part of the Icelandic State Park near Cavalier, North Dakota, is a wonderful place to visit on a hot summer day. 5. Devils Lake
North Dakota's largest natural lake has tons of opportunities for some fun under the sun. Devils Lake may be North Dakota's largest natural lake, but the largest lake in the entire state is Lake Sakakawea. There are more miles of shoreline around this lake than the whole coast of California. Multiple recreational areas and state parks line its beaches, so you have lots of options as to where exactly you want to go. Most have swimming beaches and docks for that perfect swim.
7. Lake Tschida
Lake Tschida, located near Elgin, North Dakota, is also known as the Heart Butte Reservoir. This spot has incredible views and is considered one of North Dakota's best-kept secrets. You'll quickly discover why after visiting and enjoying a dip.
