A wildflower blooms hike in North Carolina can lighten our thoughts with color and remind us of warmer times ahead. The lovely Lake Powhatan via Bent Creek Trail is a 5.5-mile out-and-back trek near and partly within the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville. This sweet journey comes to life with wildflowers sprouting in the spring! In addition to the beautiful views of Lake Powhatan surrounded by the pretty blossoms, other wildlife tends to show up, including deer, black bears, and birds. Let's take a look at this beautiful trail in the Tar Heel State.
This hike starts at the impressive North Carolina Arboretum which charges a fee to park, but it's worth the ticket alone to see the beautiful spring gardens here.
Just look at the breathtaking Quilt Garden in full bloom last May at the arboretum.
The chilly spring mornings might even bring snow, but look what else!
The flowery branches also decorate the border of the Lake Powhatan swim area.
We love how the water mirrors the fresh, light petals.
The flowers come in soft colors and all shapes and sizes, such as this bouncing mountain laurel.
And who could miss the daylilies as they greet the morning with their robust hue.
Pink is never prettier than when it first sprouts its buds after a cold winter.
Inspiration comes on strong with the first signs of spring amid the shady, hollowed-out spaces.
We recommend all of the waterside trails the arboretum offers.
You can also park at the Lake Powhatan Campground where parking is free in the winter.
Beginning about the third week of March, the parking fee is $5. Visit the campground
while you're here.
And it is always free to park at the Hardtimes Trailhead in the Pisgah National Forest.
It's hard to believe this rural place is only about 20 minutes from downtown Asheville.
