We write about many outdoor resorts with exciting amenities meant to thrill, but sometimes a trip to one of the most remote state parks in North Carolina is in order. Singletary Lake State Park in North Carolina, near Kelly, offers just the right amount of soothing quiet on its remote 649 acres. This peaceful retreat has pretty trails, rustic cabins, and a picturesque pier extending on the 572-acre natural lake. Enjoy some much-needed time to look within at this lovely, wild space.
In 1936, the land surrounding the lake at Singletary Lake State Park was purchased by the National Park Service.
It was developed as a group camp but has expanded, giving public access to hiking, fishing, and paddling inside of the captivating Bladen Lakes State Forest. This makes it one of the most remote North Carolina state parks.
We love the handsome sculpture honoring the hard work of the millions of Civilian Conservation Corps workers who served from 1933-1942.
The calming lake and blue sky form a painting here, great for paddling and fishing.
Just look at the 500-foot pier extending out to the endless horizon.
Avid birdwatchers catch all kinds of activity in this area.
Take a hike on the CCC Loop Trail, a 1-mile easy trek.
The Singletary Lake Trail stands at about 5.5 miles and is also considered an easy path.
Educational signs for children encourage hiking at an early age.
Bring some friends and make it an event with two group camps available: one for up to 84 people and the other holds up to 48.
These include restrooms; a mess hall; volleyball and basketball nets, a horseshoe pit, campers' cabins, picnic tables, and a group-sized charcoal grill.
