North Carolina has one of the most famous train theme parks on the East Coast, and if you've ever been to Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, then you know it's worthy of the fame. But there's another train park in North Carolina that's lesser known, yet fascinating - and you'll want to visit! Take a look below.
Just outside of Raleigh, next door to North Carolina State University, there's a public park with a train for the young and the young at heart.
For a nominal fee, you can hop aboard and go for a scenic ride around this 66-acre park enjoying all the sights and sounds of nature.
Pullen Park is home to a variety of awesome activities for the family.
After you've taken your train ride, you can head back to the ticket station (a.k.a. the Welcome Center) and pick your next adventure.
The little ones can take a spin in the kiddie boats. And both adults and children can enjoy a ride on the adventurous and colorful carousel.
The park has plenty of free activities too. Explore a real (retired) caboose and get a feel for what a full-sized train ride would be like.
Then head over to concessions to refuel or quench your thirst.
This may be the most fun PUBLIC park in the entire Tar Heel State!
Have you ridden the train at Pullen Park? Continue the discussion below!
Pullen Park is located at 520 Ashe Ave., Raleigh, NC 27606. The amusements are open seven days a week but the hours vary by season. You can find the current hours on the Amusements tab at this link. Tickets for all rides are $1 for ages 13 months and over. Please note, at the time of this writing, the train is closed for maintenance until February 12, 2018, and the boats are closed for the winter.
