Some of the most peaceful places in North Carolina are right in our own backyards. From pretty little parks to relaxing yoga retreats, find some inner calm and tranquility at one of these eight magical spots.
1. Lake Junaluska
In the spring when the fuzzy babies come or in the winter with a coating of frosty ice, Lake Junaluska offers a relaxing, paved 3.8-mile trail around its beautiful blue water.
2. Yoga Magnolia
This revitalizing space invites a journey toward inner balance and stillness through studio work at Yoga Magnolia in Enfield, or to retreats such as this one at Inner Banks Outfitters in Washington, North Carolina, and owner Brenda Greene even takes her students to Ireland. Discover more on Yoga Magnolia’s Facebook page.
3. Wilson Rose Garden
This lovely, community space in Wilson is worth a peek at more than 183 colorful varieties along a winding path with benches and interesting statues. For more information, visit Wilson Rose Garden's website.
4. Medoc Mountain State Park
This perfect space in Hollister has many options for traversing its 10 variegated trails, including Bluff Loop Trail. This 3.4-mile trail is a pretty easy way to see just some of the beautiful wildlife at Medoc Mountain State Park.
5. Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail
The Roanoke Canal Trail is an impressive 7.5-mile multi-use trail following the historic route of the Roanoke Canal, which can be found in two places: Roanoke Rapids Lake Day Use Area and River Falls Park in Weldon.
6. Great Smoky Mountains National Park
We would be remiss not to mention the Great Smoky Mountains National Park of which there are so many ways to explore. If you have the time, we recommend the 17.8-mile loop trail near Bryson City, the Noland Divide Trail to Deep Creek Trail Loop.
7. Dupont State Recreational Forest
The 3.3-mile High Falls and Triple Falls Tour loop trail near Hendersonville is an excellent way to spy two of Dupont State Forest's most stunning waterfalls.
8. Rutherfordton
We have already mentioned that Rutherfordton is a peaceful town to which people are drawn even to celebrate the little things at Kiwanis Park - no lights, no drama - just us.
