Not many people realize North Carolina is home to one of the longest islands in the U.S. Measuring 42 miles as the crow flies in a straight line, or 50 miles if following the shoreline, Hatteras Island is one of the natural wonders that make the Tar Heel State so spectacular.
Known as the "blue marlin capital" of the world, Hatteras Island is an Outer Banks paradise containing the longest stretch of beachfront paradise in North Carolina. Take a look at some of the best beachy spots to sink your toes in the sand on Hatteras Island:
Strike up a lofty frisbee exchange in the cool ocean breezes on the beach at Rodanthe.
Catch some rays (with appropriate sunscreen, of course) while wiggling your toes in the warm sand on the beach at Salvo.
Head north to Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and bring your camera to preserve the memories.
Get your toes wet under the Avon Fishing Pier.
Grab your other half and take a romantic sunset stroll in Frisco.
Fish the day away with your toes sunk deep in the surf in the Village of Hatteras.
And last, but not least (there are other towns to enjoy too), plant your feet firmly in the golden sand of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and get an up close photo of the tallest brick lighthouse in America.
It's hard not to fall in love with each and every beach in North Carolina! Which spot on Hatteras Island is your favorite?
