There's so much natural beauty in North Carolina that no one would fault you for overlooking one or two of our hidden gems. Here's a state park that's not as well known as some of our more famous spots, but it's definitely a little gem.
Goose Creek State Park is located in Washington, North Carolina, near Pamlico Sound.

...some truly spectacular scenery.
There are six hiking trails to choose from at Goose Creek State Park, from less than a half mile long to just over two miles long.
The Palmetto Boardwalk Trail meanders right through a freshwater swamp. The trail starts at the Environmental Education Center, and is just a half mile long.
Take the short .4-mile long Live Oak Trail for a bit of history. You'll find an old cemetery with wooden headstones that dates back to the 1880s along the way.
The other feature of this short hike? The live oak, of course!
For a peaceful, quiet experience, visit Goose Creek State Park during the winter months, and put your kayak in the water for an experience that will bring you closer to nature.
