Nothing is better for spirited kids than a family hike. These five gems are the perfect way to burn off energy and make lifelong memories.
The Pisgah Covered Bridge Loop is a lovely loop that’s less than half a mile. The featured attraction is the picturesque covered bridge.
The Pisgah Covered Bridge was built in 1911 and is one of the two remaining covered bridges in North Carolina.
This trail is stroller friendly, and the kids will enjoy splashing in the creek. So bring a picnic and your furry friend (on a leash) and spend the day with the whole family.
Cascade Trails near Deep Gap, North Carolina, is a little less than a mile with a delightful waterfall. This is a kid-friendly hike, although you will encounter steep stairs that can become slippery in wet or cold weather.
If you’re looking to cover a little more distance, talk a .5 mile stroll down Tompkins Knob Trail from the Cascade Trails parking lot and check out Jobs cabin.
Moore Cove Falls Trail is an excellent trail for kids. This trail is 1.2 miles and features a 50-foot high waterfall. There are a few stairs at the beginning, and it can get muddy in a few spots, but the mud is easy to avoid.
Near Montreat, Craggy Gardens Trail is 1.9 miles long and has an elevation gain of 574 feet. This out and back trail features beautiful wildflowers and stunning vistas.
Take a break and enjoy the view from the pavilion.
The Venus Fly Trap to Sugarloaf Loop is part hike, part treasure hunt. Keep a lookout for Venus flytraps as you hike this 2.7-mile loop trail.
Close to Carolina Beach, you’ll enjoy the views of the water and the sound of the lapping waves.
The Venus flytrap is protected, so do not disturb or harvest it if you find one.
