One of the most unusual city parks in the state of North Carolina features a bog. In case you were wondering exactly what a bog is... it's one of the four main types of wetlands. The other other three are swamps, marshes and fens. And then, there is the bog: a highly diverse ecological environment that involves, among other things, pools of standing water or a wetland that develops peat. This, of course, is an overgeneralized explanation.
But in no way does it slight the beauty found in the Bog Garden at Benjamin Park in Greensboro.
The park is a masterpiece of a botanical garden tucked away behind a busy shopping center.
If you live nearby, then don't be surprised when this little slice of paradise becomes your new favorite little spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
The garden boasts more than a half mile of boardwalk that traverses the bog and leads past a pond, or is it a lake?
And you never know what little surprises you'll find at the Bog Garden.
Photographers, both amateur and professional, love capturing perfect shots of the garden's residents. The storybook setting is enchanting to say the least.

The park was developed by a local doctor, Joe Christian, who saw to the project after the property was donated to the city in 1987. In 2005, a 150-foot man made waterfall was added and dedicated to Christian.
The waterfall and the walkways lead to a world of enchantment right in the middle of the city and are a peaceful and serene escape. Be sure to put it on your list of must-visit places when in the area.
You'll find the Bog Garden at 1101 Hobbs Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410. Admission is free. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week.
