Second chances are sometimes once in a lifetime - at least they are for the hundreds of raptors and other birds of prey that come to this unique 'healing' center in North Carolina each year. This park is one-of-a-kind and located within the Latta Nature Preserve, is one of the most visited outdoor attractions in the area, yet most people don't even know the Carolina Raptor Center exists.
But once you experience the heartwarming discoveries in this park, you'll be a believer — and perhaps you'll want to return over and over to visit the "patients" and show support for all this center does.
The Carolina Raptor Center is a permanent home to more than 30 species of raptors, all given a second chance when they were rescued with injuries.
Take a walk along the 3/4 mile raptor and other birds of prey trail and get to see them up close. In addition to raptors, the trail features owls, vultures, hawks, eagles, falcons, corvids and other species.
Did you know that vultures and corvids are some of the smartest birds around? Have you seen one up close? How about a bald eagle?
And while we're on the subject, the Carolina Raptor Center's Raptor Trail features an Owl Forest. It's probably not hard to figure out what you'll find in here.
Chances are you've never seen so many owls in one place before!

Time your visit right and you could get to take a tour of the Raptor Hospital. How cool would that be? But if you happen to miss it, there's an exhibit that details much of the goings on. The Raptor Hospital at CRC takes in an average of 900 new patients per year, then helps them heal before returning them to their natural habitat.
With so much to see and do at this unique raptor park, you should probably allow at least a couple of hours — and wear some super comfortable walking shoes.
The Carolina Raptor Center is centrally located just outside of Charlotte, making it an easy spot for a day trip.
