You can find historic stops that are more than worth making all around the city of Buffalo, each one showing a different side of the city we've come to call home. Some of us will choose to explore the past by stopping into places like Ulrich's 1868 Tavern - the oldest bar in all of the Queen City - or other notable destinations like the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site on Delaware Avenue. Whatever areas you decide to explore, you'll want to be sure to add our local zoo to your list of things to do. Keep reading to find out why!
Dating all the way back to 1875, The Buffalo Zoo happens to be the third oldest zoo in the entire country!
While many zoos across the country only remain open during the warmer months, The Buffalo Zoo stays open throughout all four seasons.
During the wintertime, the zoo turns into an otherworldly wonderland with exotic animals prancing about in the snow.
The 20+ acres that make up this zoo in Delaware Park will leave you amazed, and it's not hard to see why nearly half a million visitors make their way to this epic zoo each year.
We're more than appreciative to have such a notable zoo right in a local park!
If you're new to the city or visiting from elsewhere around the Empire State, here's what you can expect to find during a trip to The Buffalo Zoo.
A jaw-dropping array of species await you within the walls. The zoo is home to animals like bison, giraffes, gorillas, lions, hyenas, meerkats, otters, sea lions, zebras…
...polar bears, reptiles, kookaburras, rhinos, monkeys, and so, so many more creatures you may have never seen before in your lifetime.
No matter how old you are or how long you've lived in Buffalo, it's always exciting to see what new animals are calling our local zoo home.
