Make your way through New York's Hudson Valley, and you'll eventually reach the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve, a gorgeous region full of adventurous hikes, stunning scenery, and Hudson River overlooks that will take your breath away. You can also hike to the ruins of an old Cornish estate! Here are a few of our favorite trails and scenes from the park, in case you want to spend an upcoming weekend exploring this one-of-a-kind preserve.
When it comes to scenic overlooks, the hikes at Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve rival those of almost anywhere else in New York.
The 8,000-acre preserve features more than 70 miles of trails and is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the region, with a number of fantastic hikes for all skill levels.
Breakneck Ridge, for example, is a favorite of hikers and is part of a 3.2 mile loop trail that includes the Breakneck Bypass and the Wilkinson Trail Loop. Some of the stops along this trail that overlook the Hudson River are truly incredible.
If you plan to spend time in or around Cold Spring, explore the 4.3-mile Bull Hill Short Loop, which starts from Little Stony Point, just north of the town of Cold Spring.
For a shakeup in scenery, the alluring Cornish Estate Trail, which features the ruins of the more than a century-old Stern-Cornish Estate, is a ton of fun for anyone looking to discover a little bit of history in the midst of this beautiful region.
If you're looking for a shorter, moderate hike that is no less scenic than the rest, hit the 2.2-mile Anthony's Nose Trail and take in this Hudson Valley beauty:
