There’s a beautiful state park in New York that is a nature-lover’s paradise. Hiding in Huntington, Caumsett State Park should be on every hiker and explorer’s radar. Here’s why you should make time to visit this charming corner of the state.
Situated on a gorgeous peninsula that juts int Long Island Sound, Caumsett State Park was built as a sumptuous English-style estate in 1921.
The estate was self-sufficient and had its own electric and water supply. At one point, it had facilities for every sport except golf.
The property was acquired by the state in 1961 and now is a prime spot for a myriad of outdoor activities.
Visitors here can enjoy fishing, hiking, bird watching, biking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding.
The park is the perfect blend of grassy open space, shady woodland and stunning seascapes.
Kayaking and boating are popular activities as well. The view from the water is unbeatable.
Caumsett State Park also provides plenty of opportunities like riding lessons and environmental education.
