Brighter days in New York mean more fun in the sun, and one of the best ways to enjoy the outdoor beauty of upstate New York is to dive right into a weekend of kayaking, paddling, and canoeing in one of the most picturesque regions in the Northeast: the Finger Lakes. While the Finger Lakes offer so many different destinations for water sports, these are a few of our favorite spots to get out on the water, and you may not be familiar with a few of them.
1. Hemlock-Canadice State Forest
Explore the gorgeous Hemlock and Canadice Lakes by kayak at this gorgeous state park, a 6,849-acre park on the western side of the Finger Lakes that makes for the ultimate adventure out on the water.
Paddle to your heart's content on one of these secluded lakes and just relax! And don't miss out on one of the great hikes in this area.
2. Green Lakes State Park
The two glacial lakes at Green Lakes State Park are surrounded by beautiful forest, and there's even a neighboring golf course with great views of the water. Kayak and rowboat rentals are also available at the local boathouse.
3. Sampson State Park
From camping to boating, this park has it all if you're looking to go an extended camping trip and spend some time out on the lake.
The 2,000-acre park borders Seneca Lake. Late afternoon, lakeside sunsets don't get much better than this.
4. Keuka Lake
Keuka Lake is one of the prettiest lakes in the region, and it's a popular destination for all kinds of recreation, from kayaking to exploring the region's famous wine trails.
Spend a day out on the lake surrounded by rolling hills, and the scenery will put you at peace like few other places can.
Before you set out on a day-long paddling or kayaking exploration with friends and family, make sure you've got the right supplies for your adventure, including plenty of water, food, sun protection, and life vests.
