Once you've lived with the cold long enough in New York, you learn to embrace the harsh winter weather in order to make the best of things. You can try and stay next to the fireplace all season long, but at some point you'll cave in and step outside to dive into our powdery blanket of fun. Getting showered in lake-effect snow storms, our Western residents have a ton of amazing locations that turn into their own winter amusement parks during this time of year. Grab your jackets and bundle up, because you're going to want to ride down the one epic chute that offers the best toboggan ride in New York.
Just one of the many lovely towns you can find right outside of Buffalo, Orchard Park has the perfect place for you to take your sleds and toboggans.
Located inside Chestnut Ridge Park, visitors can take their toboggans down the historic chutes on weekends and holidays from 10AM until 4PM during the winter.
Weather permitting, the chutes are also open on Fridays from 4PM until 8PM.
Built back in the 1930s, the chutes have long been a winter tradition for our residents in Western New York.
Shortly after the park was founded in the mid 1920's, three chutes were built. Over five years ago Erie County repaired the two remaining chutes, making them a part of our family traditions once again. Full of history and adventure, the chutes are now some of the only remaining ones you can find in our country.
Bring your own toboggan and you'll be able to take an unforgettable ride down this roughly 20-foot tall chute and insane hill inside of the park.
Like we said, this place turns into a complete winter wonderland when it's covered in snow. The park has become popular over the years because it's home to Eternal Flame Falls, but during the winter? The only thing you'll have your eyes on is this epic hill.
Don't have your own toboggan? No worries. There's an enormous designated sledding hill that's open from 10AM to 8PM daily!
Another thing you should keep on mind? The annual Chestnut Ridge Winterfest is always a great time! Taking place in late January each year, the park totally transforms with festivity. Held even if there's no snow, the festival is made up of arts and crafts, snow sculpting, marshmallow roasting and other seasonal activities that you'll absolutely love.
