If you ask us here at Only In New York, we'll tell you that any time of year is amazing to head out to Niagara Falls to enjoy one of our state's most visited parks and sets of waterfalls. With that said, you'll find that one of the most popular seasons to visit Niagara Falls State Park is during the summertime, and that's largely due to the fact that people want to experience activities like the Cave of the Winds. Well, no need to wait until the warmer months to arrive to enjoy this corner of the falls because it's recently been announced that the Cave of the Winds will be open during the winter too — check it out!
During New York State's coldest months, you can find Niagara Falls State Park completely transformed into a breathtaking winter wonderland.
While you could only previously experience the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls between the months of May and October, visitors can now rejoice over the fact that the attraction will also be open during the winter.
Keeping the attraction open year-round, the elevators to the cave will operate daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. — weather permitting, of course.
Giving you an almost identical experience to that of which you'd have during the summer and fall, people will be able to come into the Cave of the Winds Visitors Center and learn all about the history of the falls before heading down.
The only difference with visiting the Cave of the Winds during the winter season is that the decks at the base of the falls won't be set up.
During the winter, you'll grab your tickets for the Cave of the Winds experience, taking the elevator down to the frozen gorge where you're surrounded by all the ice and snow.
With a permanent deck set up now for visitors to enjoy during the winter, you'll have jaw-dropping views of the Niagara River that will give you a whole new appreciation for this frigid season.
