Where natural wonders and beauty can be found in abundance, the town of Stony Brook is where you'll find the Avalon Nature Preserve in New York.
Free for all to visit and open every day from dawn until dusk, one of the best parts about this park is that you’ll be able to make your way through a variety of landscapes, allowing you to explore dense forests, breathtaking meadows, historic mill ponds, areas full of wildflowers, other secluded spaces.
The trails within the park all range in length from less than 1-mile long to just over 2-miles long...
...with the Yellow and Orange Trails running through the Hilltop Meadow that's at its peak bloom in July!
Currently at the park, all trails east of the Rhododendron Road, which includes the main entrance, boardwalk, and labyrinth are currently closed due to construction - so be sure to keep an eye out for when these spectacular parts of the park are back open.
With still so much to explore, you'll be truly amazed by this little slice of Suffolk County.
