Everyone has their own way of saying goodbye to summer and welcoming the fall season with open arms, and for many of us that includes paying a visit to one of our favorite local orchards. Sometimes we may feel a bit bias for being head over heels for these charming locations, so it's always nice when others recognize how amazing these destinations are. Voted the Best Apple Orchard by readers over at 10Best, this one small town orchard is more than deserving of this accolade and we'll tell you why.
Known for being one of the best orchards in all of New York, Beak and Skiff Apple Orchard can be found roughly 20-minutes south of Syracuse in the town of Lafayette.
Visiting Beak and Skiff is how many of our residents love to kick off the fall season, a family-favorite destination out near our beautiful Finger Lakes region.
The family owned orchard has been around for over 100 years, mastering exactly how to produce the most delicious tasting apples.
The orchard grows over 15 different kinds of apples that you can pick yourself, with every picker being given their own bags to use.
Pick your own apple season starts this week at Beak and Skiff, with favorites like JonaMac, Gala, McIntosh and Honeycrisp apples ready for Mid-September.
On the orchard's property you'll be able to stop into the country store and bake shop.
Inside the bake shop you'll be surrounded by the aroma of all things apple, where you'll also be able to get a peak at how Beak and Skiff's fresh cider donuts are made.
And if you're not taking home a box of their cider donuts, you'll almost certainly be walking out of there with one of their scrumptious apple pies or homemade apple dumplings.
Aside from the delicious variety of bakery treats that are waiting for you, Beak and Skiff also makes their own 1911 gin and vodka that you can buy and take home with you.
Speaking of delicious drinks, you can't forget the fact that they also make their own hard cider and wine that will help keep you warm during this chilly fall season.
While the sun's still out and shining you can enjoy the 1911 Cafe's outdoor seating, giving you panoramic views of the orchard and rural scenery.
The cafe is the perfect place to stop if you're looking to fill up on something a bit more heartier than the orchard's bakery treats, with a menu full of burgers, wings and amazing salads.
Between the country store, cafe, bakery, apple barn, orchards and designated kids area, there's something for every visitor to enjoy at this picture-perfect destination.
The younger crowd can enjoy the Kid's Area where you'll find a playground, picnic tables and during the fall even ponies. While older visitors will love exploring the country store and bakery that's full of items you'll want to take home with you.
