Fans of waterfalls in New York are in heaven. We've got so many beautiful falls, including some of the most famous in the world. Niagara Falls, Kaaterskill Falls, Taughannock Falls: there's some massive and gorgeous waterfalls to be seen in the Empire State. The Adirondack region mostly has smaller falls than some of our more towering ones, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth exploring. Next time you've got time for a day trip in New York, take a trip up to this beautiful area and check out some of the many smaller waterfalls there. We don't have the time to name all the waterfalls in the Adirondacks, of course, but here are a few of our favorites:
Flume Falls: 5257 NY-86 Scenic, Wilmington, NY 12997
The Flume Falls Trail is one of our favorite short hikes in New York. It's only a 2-mile loop and it's easy to navigate, so it's perfect even for novice hikers.
Auger Falls: Wells, NY 12190
One great thing about many of these waterfalls is how easily accessible they are! For example, Auger Falls is a series of gently cascading falls that is only about half a mile from the road.
Griffin Gorge and Waterfall: Teachout Rd, Wells, NY 12190
Griffin Falls is a hidden waterfall in New York that is not as popular as some of the larger falls, but is still just as beautiful. Measuring only about eight feet in height, there isn't much scale to it, but it's got a great swimming hole down at the bottom!
East Creek Jimmy Falls: Wells, NY 12190
This is another very easily-accessed waterfall. It's actually two small falls, about 10 feet in height, and it's a quick .2-mile walk from the road. Check out the hike's page at Alltrails for more information about how to access the waterfalls.
Buttermilk Falls: Long Lake, NY 12847
Continuing the trend of easy-to-reach waterfalls in New York is Buttermilk Falls in Long Lake. Located in the beautiful Sargent Ponds Wild Forest, it's a very quick hike to get to this lovely little waterfall.
Whiskey Brook Falls: NY-30, Speculator, NY 12164
This waterfall sits practically just off the road. It's about six feet tall and is particularly lovely when surrounded by fall foliage.
High Falls Gorge: 4761 NY-86, Wilmington, NY 12997
High Falls Gorge is gorgeous even in the wintertime. The easy loop trail here can be hiked at any time of year and will show off several beautiful falls.
Roaring Brook Falls: Keene Valley, NY
Roaring Brook Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Adirondacks. The 1.6-mile trail that leads to the falls is lovely and can be accessed in any season.
Due to space and time limitations, we obviously couldn't name every waterfall in New York's Adirondacks region, but did we miss any that you are particularly fond of? Share your suggestions in the comments!
