While exploring New Mexico, some of the most awe-inspiring, picturesque, and quiet areas are found off of the beaten path. San Lorenzo Canyon, located northwest of Socorro, is one such destination. Not only will you enjoy incredible views while exploring this canyon, but there is plenty to do such as hiking, camping, and capturing exquisite photos.
San Lorenzo Canyon is located in the central area of the Land of Enchantment.
As you drive to this canyon, you’ll travel on a dirt road for several miles.
This area is covered with arches, hoodoos, sandstone cliffs, and other remarkable scenery.
Bring along your hiking shoes as there are some fascinating places to explore in the canyon.
The San Lorenzo Canyon Loop Trail is a 1.8-mile trail that is rated easy. However, make sure you bring excellent shoes as the trail is sandy and rocky.
There will also be some narrow areas you can explore in this gorgeous canyon.
The views from this canyon are stunning. As you hike, look for incredible views of Socorro Peak in the distance.
San Lorenzo Canyon is a popular destination for photographers and it is easy to see why.
If you want a true adventure, primitive camping is allowed in the area.
Unfortunately, there are no restrooms, picnic areas, and drinking water in the canyon. You will need to pack appropriately for your overnight stay.
Whether you choose to stay for a few days or you want to spend a single day, San Lorenzo Canyon is a must-see when in the Land of Enchantment.
