Just when we thought we've seen everything in New Mexico, the state still manages to surprise us with hidden spots you really need to dig deep to find. For example, did you know an oasis is hiding not far from one of New Mexico's most popular national parks? Come find out why this little hidden paradise at one of the best state parks to visit in New Mexico is so awesome:
After descending into the depths of Carlsbad Caverns and exploring the unique landscapes below ground, you can take a short drive south of the visitor center to an isolated area of the park.
Here, you will find Rattlesnake Springs.
Arguably one of the few true oases in the Chihuahuan Desert, it features a natural spring that forms a tree-lined lake. The blue-green spring and its isolated location make this the perfect serene getaway.
The cottonwoods stretch up into the sky and create the perfect canopy for your picnicking adventures.
The oasis isn't just a hidden retreat for humans; each year, you'll find thousands of birds resting and nesting in this rare desert treat.
You'll find plenty of other creatures roaming the wetlands: deer, lizards, porcupine, and other animals enjoying the cool environment.
Have you had a chance to search for Rattlesnake Springs? What did you think of the hidden oasis?
