Dashing through the snow isn't always an option but you can still enjoy a hike through a wintery wonderland in New Mexico. Check out a few trails that offer a relaxing, snow-covered walk through the state's landscapes.
1. The Deer, Lynx, & Bobcat Loop Trails in Angel Fire
This trail measures approximately 3.2 miles in length and combines portions of several trails in town for an easy stroll. Begin the trail at the city visitor center in Frontier Park and follow the trail markers — or footprints left in the snow from previous hikers — for an easy stroll in the snow.

2. Oeste Vista Loop, Angel Fire
Looking for a trail that's a fairly easy trek but offers a little more than your average nature stroll? Oeste Vista Loop is located on the south side of Angel Fire and offers a slight elevation gain and beautiful mountain views but is still easy enough for the kiddos in your family to trek through the snow.

3. Black Canyon Trail, Santa Fe
This short loop is just a 15-minute drive from Santa Fe at the Black Canyon Campground near Hyde Park. The campground closes in late fall but you can still trek the 1.6-mile trail, so take your time to enjoy the snowy views.

4. Big Tesuque Trail, Santa Fe
Not sure you quite want to face the crowds at the nearby ski resort? This 3.6-mile loop is a great alternative that begins at the Big Tesuque Campground, winds down the canyon to the Rio Chupadero, and briefly loops with part of the Winsor Trail.

5. North Cedar Creek Trail, Ruidoso
This 3.6-mile loop is on the road to Ski Apache and is usually a busy location in the summer and fall months. Once winter hits, however, it feels like a wonderfully isolated spot. This trail is a little more of a workout with the elevation gains, so be sure to take it slow and enjoy the gorgeous views!
