Summer is (unofficially) here and that means a few things. First of all, it means outdoor fun. Many of us will hit the shore but that's not all New Jersey has to offer on a sunny day. We have some fantastic hiking trails including one that will take you high into the sky, a sliver of heaven on earth.
The hike from Pochuck Valley to Pinwheel Vista will take you straight to heaven.
In fact, your 7.3-mile moderate hike along the Appalachian trail includes a rocky 2.9-mile segment aptly called the "Stairway to Heaven."
Why? Probably because the jagged stairway takes you straight to the top of Waywayanda Mountain. On a clear day, you can see the High Point Monument.
With views like this, it certainly almost seems like paradise.
Your journey begins with an easy, level stroll along the Pochuck Boardwalk.
Along the way, you'll cross several bridges...
Including the 110-foot Pochuck Quagmire Suspension Bridge over Pochuck Creek. Completed in 1995, it made the Appalachian Trail much more accessible to locals.
You'll pass by farms and through fields of flowers, sprawling pastures and bucolic scenes.
The hike is an easy one, until you hit the boulder field. Though this means you're approaching some incredible views.
At about 3.1 miles in, you'll reach Annie's Bluff.
At 3.6 miles, you'll approach Pinwheel Vista.
Sit for a bit and take in the beautiful views in all directions before heading back.

While you can just hike the accessible boardwalk trail if you choose, I’d make it up to Pinwheel Vista if you’re able. You’ll see for miles; it’s truly magical. The primary issue is parking; be sure to respect local ordinances. For a step by step guide to this hike, check out NJHiking.com.
