There are so many stunning hiking trails in our country, but some truly stand out above the rest. Angel's Landing in Utah's Zion National Park and the Snowmass Wilderness in Aspen, Colorado instantly come to mind for me but, according to USA Today, there's another great hike inspiring awe upon all that traverse it - and it's right here in the Garden State. Come see why Mount Tammany is one of the best hiking trails in New Jersey.
Mount Tammany is located in Worthington State Forest, along the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
There are several hiking trails on the mountain, each offering spectacular views. From the top, you can access the Appalachian Trail, too.
Expect sweeping mountain and river landscapes atop Mount Tammany's 1,526′ peak. You'll be looking straight across to Pennsylvania!
The most popular trek is a challenging 3.5-mile hike that loops the blue and red dot trails.
Spectacular in every season, this hike is steep but manageable.
The reward is definitely worth the effort and it's a fun hike to take with friends.
With wooden foot bridges over flowing creeks...
...and rushing cascades along the trail.
After you hike through the landscape here, it will come as no surprise that USA Today named this one of the 20 most awe inspiring hikes in America.
And it's right here in New Jersey. To get to Mount Tammany, head to Old Mine Road in Warren County. For a short walk-through, check out this video by NJ Hiking.
