Whitesbog Historic Village is one of the most unique spots in New Jersey, and located in the forest known as "The Gateway to the Pine Barrens".

In addition to the beautiful sights, you can usually find cranberries and baked goods for sale - and everything here is delicious.

But to get the full Whitesbog experience, you'll want to head out of the village and explore the surrounding wetlands.

The best way is through a simple, 1.9-mile out-and-back trail that takes you on an easy route through the swamp.

As you explore the woods on well-trod trails, you'll see fascinating remnants of past residences reclaimed by nature.

Of course, it wouldn't be a wetland without some water, and Whitesbog is one of the most peaceful spots in the state for exploring.

The area is a low-key but popular spot for fishers, and the path will often find you surrounded by water on both sides.

The large bogs have a special purpose - they're home to the largest cranberry bogs in the state in season, the heart of the state's production.

If you're here during September during harvest time, the area will look incredibly different - and unlike any other swamp you've ever seen.

During the winter, it's a much more isolated place - but gorgeous in its own way. The village is uniquely peaceful covered in snow.
