New Jersey is a peninsula surrounded by islands. On Absecon Island, you'll find Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate, and Longport. Cape Island is home to Cape May, Cape May Point, and West Cape May. Head to Seven Mile Island and visit the charming communities of Stone Harbor and Avalon. Whether you're looking for seclusion and relaxation, fascinating history, or endless entertainment, the Garden State has an island for that.
One favorite, especially during the summer months is Long Beach Island. Locals know it as LBI and it's a real Jersey gem. The barrier island has a year-round population of 20,000 which swells to over 100,000 when the weather gets warm. It is home to several communities, each with their own personalities. These communities include Ship Bottom, Surf City, North Beach, Harvey Cedars, Loveladies, High Bar Harbor, Barnegat Light, Ship Bottom, Long Beach Township, and Beach Haven.
Today, we're focusing on Beach Haven, Harvey Cedars, and Barnegat Light. Each of these communities, all located on a single 18-mile-long island offers a different vacation or day trip experience. Harvey Cedars is more residential, with just a handful of shops and restaurants along with beautiful ocean and bay beaches. Barnegat Light is home to a state park, iconic lighthouse, the Barnegat Light Museum, and Mustache Bill's Diner. Beach Haven is perhaps the island's most bustling neighborhood.
Beach Haven offers a wide selection of shopping and dining options including The Chicken or the Egg (dining) and Sea La Vie (shopping). There's also a museum, theater, mini-golf, amusement park, and waterpark. Everyone in New Jersey should visit at least once! Check out the photos of the island below and don't miss the incredible drone footage.
