The Garden State is home to hundreds and thousands of acres of farmland. We've got farms focused on corn, tomatoes, apples and all sorts of berries, but did you know that we also have a handful of lavender farms? A more recent trend in New Jersey's agriculture industry, these scenic farms are a relaxation haven. One of our more popular lavender farms is Pleasant Valley Lavender in Morganville.
According to Pleasant Valley Lavender Farm's website, they were the very first lavender farm in New Jersey.
The owner was inspired by a trip to Sequim, Washington - the lavender capital of North America. What began as a small, 150 plant operation has grown into a nearly 10-acre farm with thousands of plants. The farm is open to the public from May - early autumn and a visit is sure to delight.
This fragrant farm is a peaceful paradise.
Visitors can pack a picnic and relax, taking in the soothing lavender scent. They can also explore the fields and cut their own lavender bundles. If you'd rather not get down and dirty, the farm will also harvest fresh lavender for you.
Even the deer love the lavender farm!
You'll also spot butterflies and honey bees flitting about. It's hard not to fall in love with the mix of over 20 different lavender varieties. The versatile herb is believed to have unique properties that soothe and relax. It can also enhance circulation, alleviate pain and serve as a disinfectant.
Pleasant Valley also offers a selection of lavender-related goods.
You can purchase live plants, as well as a selection of Lavender buds, sachets, candles, handmade soaps, and delicious Lavender honey - a local favorite. Another favorite is the lavender bandanna. Called the "chillax puppy," the handsewn bandannas have lavender sachet inserts to keep your dog calm and smelling sweet. Another perk? Lavender is known to repel fleas and mosquitoes.
