New Jersey's farms tend to come back to life in the spring and early summer, as the flowers bloom and the trees are near-bursting with fruit. I always love dropping in on one of these rural gems to fill up a box or two with seasonal fruit and whatever else the farm is selling. Of course, for large families, a day trip like this is a little trickier - it's a big effort to drive the whole family out to the farm, and parents will want to make sure the kids are occupied. That's where Abma's Farm comes into play - this Wyckoff gem might be the best family-friendly farm in NJ, thanks to a petting zoo and unique playground on the grounds. Then there's the massive farmer's market, filled with delicious treats all seasons of the year. It's really less a shopping trip than a full-fledged attraction, and that's what makes it a true New Jersey original.
Abma's Farm is like a little rural theme park hiding in the middle of Wyckoff, filled with unique attractions.
Currently, the star attraction at the farm is the flowers, coming from the farm's massive greenhouses. Even if you're not buying, they're beautiful to look at.
The farm is also known for its homegrown strawberries, and the crop will hit its peak in June.
But that's just the start - kids will love playing around in the whimsical playground, filled with picture opportunities.
There's a charming barnyard petting zoo, with donkeys and miniature ponies, plus smaller animals like rabbits.
A new group of baby goats just arrived in April - come to see them while they're tiny!
Before you leave, make sure to stop by the massive farm market, where you'll find some amazing produce, baked goods, jams, and so much more.
The highlight might be the house-made donut holes, made fresh daily. You'll want to get an extra sack for the road!
