There are so many amazing fall activities to do in New Jersey: hikes to see the fall foliage, Halloween haunted houses to run through, pumpkin patches to visit, and even hay rides to test out. One of our favorite fall activities in the state, though, might just be apple picking. There's just something about apple picking that exudes fall energy, right? So, with that in mind, here are some of the best fall apple orchards in New Jersey to visit this season.
1. Hill Creek Farms, Mullica Hill
One of the best places to go apple picking in New Jersey is definitely Hill Creek Farms! There are three massive apple orchards located on this 24-acre farm, so you're sure to find the perfect variety to indulge and walk away with more fruit than you can carry! In various seasons you'll also find plums, peaches, and plenty more U-pick options.
2. Eastmont Orchards, Colts Neck
Formerly known as Delicious Orchards, the first apple trees at this Colts Neck staple were planted all the way back in 1911! Check out 21 different varieties at Eastmont Orchards and find the perfect fit for your pies, lunchbox, or afternoon snack.
3. Alstede Farms, Chester
We love visiting this beautiful orchard. Alstede Farms has been around for over 40 years, and you'll always find a new selection of produce to pick or purchase. Not sure what type of apple you'll love the most? Alstede Farms breaks down each variety on their website so you know what flavors you'll enjoy most, and even what the best uses for each are!
4. Terhune Orchards, Princeton
Terhune Orchards grows over 500 different varieties of organic produce, and apples get a little extra love here! 30 different varieties are grown on dwarf apple trees, with 12 available for picking in fall, which means apple picking here is an activity for the whole family. Love the taste but can't get here in fall? Innovative tech-controlled storage means you can try any of these apple varieties year-round. This adorable Lawrence Township farm is also a winery, so you can enjoy a nice glass of wine after a long day of apple picking or grab a super refreshing apple slushie.
5. Battleview Orchards, Freehold
This fantastic farm and country store has been going strong since 1908 and is wonderfully owned by the Applegate family - so you know the apples here must be extra delicious! In fact, this is the oldest "pick your own" orchard in New Jersey! The country store at Battleview Orchards also boasts oodles of produce plus tasty homemade pies, apple cider donuts, party platters, and gourmet treats.
6. Sunny Slope Farms, Bridgeton
The apple cider at this Bridgeton farm is a must-try. Buy a bottle to go along with your freshly picked apples, or a few of their incredible fruit wines - like the peach!
8. Strawberry Hill Farm, Chesterfield
Interestingly, you won't find any U-pick strawberries at Strawberry Hill FarmBut you will. find plenty of pick-your-own apples (and pears and peaches)! This is such a quaint and beautiful family orchard in southern Jersey you'll definitely want to bring a camera along as well.
8. Demarest Farms, Hillsdale
Demarest Farms has been serving up tantalizing produce since 1886. Visit the grocery store in this Bergen County farm for amazing produce, or visit the orchard to pick it yourself! Just remember to make your apple-picking reservation in advance. While you're at it, grab some apple cider donuts, pick up a pumpkin, or explore the bevy of offerings here.
