Editor's Note: This location has closed. Check out one of New Jersey's other amazing Alpaca Farms, like Bluebird Alpaca Farm.
If you're interested in alpacas, New Jersey has got you covered. We have several, located throughout the state, but today I am featuring one of the standouts. It's easy to spend hours here, and so much fun for the whole family. There are multiple opportunities to interact with the adorable alpacas, and you're going to love the atmosphere!
Highland Airs Alpaca Ranch is located on 30 beautiful acres in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
The property backs up to the Musconetcong River (not in photo) and they invite guests to use the picnic tables or bring a blanket for a scenic lunch.
Which is wonderful, but it's time to talk alpacas.
They're adorable, and we're obsessed. I wonder what they're whispering...
And just look at this little cutie! I could honestly post a few dozen photos of Highland Airs' alpacas and be certain that I'd compiled a quality article for you...
But I'm sure you want to know more! You will find 23 alpacas, 1 llama, 1 husky, an alpaca gift store, and 2 amazing owners.
Visitors can take tours to meet the alpacas, and learn more about their lives. What I've learned so far? Alpacas love cuddles (once they get to know you, and sometimes right away!) and kiddos. (They love adults, too!) Fun fact: they don't enjoy being pet on the head like dogs or cats — pet them below their jawbone or down their neck. If you want to feed the alpacas, grain is available. That may up your odds of a snuggle.
Special halter tours are available where guests are trained to walk the alpacas! What a unique opportunity.
They've also got a great gift shop where can take home an alpaca of your own!
There's a wide variety of alpaca-themed and alpaca-fiber goods to choose from. For the greatest gift of all, you can symbolically adopt an alpaca — there are plenty of perks!
Are you excited to visit? Find Highland Airs Alpaca Ranch at 10 River Rd. (off Kings Hwy.), Hackettstown. They are open to the public on weekends from 10:30-4. You can learn more by visiting their website here. If you love animals, you may also want to check out this wolf sanctuary in New Jersey.
