There's nothing more refreshing than plunging into a cool forest swimming hole! And, lucky for us, some of the best are right here in New Hampshire. Some are just off the road, making it easy to grab a picnic and towels for the trip. But our favorites are the ones you have to work for! And that's this one!
To reach one of the most beautiful swimming holes in the state, you’ll want to head to the Baldface Circle Trail.
This simple 1.6-mile out-and-back trail will lead you not only to the refreshing swimming spot, but also through some of the most lovely forest scenery.
If the name of the trail sounds familiar it might be that this shorter trail is part of a larger 9-mile route. This one is more difficult and best tackled if you’re an experienced hiker.
And, when you realize just how close Emerald Pool is via the shorter trail, you’ll be hopping and skipping your way through the woods!
The trail provides some lovely views, but the pool is what we’re looking for here! And once you arrive you won’t be disappointed.
The swimming hole is fed by a waterfall that makes its way through the rocks and boulders at one end.
The area feels a lot like a tropical oasis, filled with bright greens and water so clear you can see to the bottom.
And on a sunny day when rays of sunshine reach through the trees, the entire area seems to sparkle.
The trail and the swimming hole destination make this a great summer day trip to take with friends. And, the route is short enough to make it great for kids who like to hike!
