When it comes to exploration and adventure, there's plenty to do and see right here in New Hampshire. Which is a good thing considering we've all been spending a whole lot more time locally these days. If you're anything like us it might be starting to feel like you've seen and enjoyed every corner of the state at this point. But, anything can feel new if you look at it just a bit differently. This little hike is a great example. Even if you've already visited, consider heading back for another look. The little path is lovely and when you reach the beach you'll be rewarded with some of the nicest views in the area.
To access this beautiful hike you'll need to head to Rye for a visit to Odiorne Point State Park. It's a beauty throughout the year, which means you can visit often for a totally different experience each time.
While there aren't a lot of markings here, it's pretty much impossible to get lost. Simply follow the path around the loop until you return to the trailhead near the parking lot.
Due to its location near the water, you can expect relatively flat terrain which is great for little legs. Some people have even been able to maneuver strollers here.
Odiorne Point State Park is open daily. You can learn more about it on the New Hampshire State Parks website. And you can check out the trail and a map by visiting alltrails.com. You may see some dogs here, but they're not officially allowed. And, while COVID-19 continues the parking lots will be closed which means you'll need to walk into the park. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. I admit I'm not a big swimmer, but I do love being near water! Fortunately, New Hampshire is graced with many wonderful water features like lakes, ponds, rivers, brooks, and waterfalls. Chances are you don't have to go far to visit one of these natural areas of beauty. Once summer arrives and the temps heat up, getting to the nearest water source for some natural cooling is a must. One New Hampshire river, the Saco River, has been a source of recreation for centuries and it will definitely keep you cool.

New Hampshire's Saco River begins at the tiny Saco Lake in Crawford Notch. This small body of water doesn't look like it could feed such a long river.
The river winds its way downhill from the White Mountains in one of the most scenic areas of the state. Even if you don't take a dip, simply enjoying the views is pleasant.
The river remains a popular site for recreation, attracting thousands of people each summer to its busiest sections. But with a little exploring, you can find quieter, out-of-the-way spots to enjoy.
As with all large waterways, the Saco River can also be dangerous and should be respected. It is prone to flooding and several major flooding events have occurred in recent years.
