There are 93 state parks in New Hampshire and each one offers beautiful views and fun activities. From lake swimming and boating to mountain climbs, there's something for every skill level and interest. But, these days we're looking for spots that aren't crowded where we can find some peace, quiet and some social-distance. This one, located in Washington, is lesser-know but offers some of the most magnificent landscapes in the state!
Pillsbury State Park in Washington offers tons of land to explore, but it's still one of the least-visited state parks in New Hampshire.
While it's considered a bit primitive, it's known for being exceptionally well-maintained. The land features lots of different habitats which means there are a variety of different animals living here. And you just might have the chance to spot a moose or hear the haunting call of a loon.
The park also features many different wetland examples, including ponds and streams.
And the park offers kayak and canoe rentals allowing visitors to explore the area even more deeply.
If you like camping this is a great place to choose! They have 35 campsites that can be reserved in advance.
And the hiking trails here offer access to lots of different landscapes. Enjoy the brooks, streams, and small waterfalls throughout.
You'll even have the chance to hike on a part of the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway, a 51-mile route connecting Mount Monadnock with Mount Sunapee.
The park is open-year rounds and in the winter things are even more serenely beautiful. Bring your cross-country skis and your dog for a fun adventure.
Or, simply plan your visit with the sunrise and enjoy yourself without breaking a sweat. This is one state park that should definitely be on your bucket list of you love the peace offered by the New Hampshire outdoors.
Pillsbury State Park is open year-round, but during the off-season, it's not staffed and restrooms may be closed. During this time, if conditions are considered dangerous, the gate will be closed so be sure to call ahead if you'd like to visit. Entry for adults is $4 and kids 6-11 are $2. Campgrounds are also available from mid-June through Columbus Day 2020 for a fee.
