Among the number of natural attractions we have the privilege of visiting, one of the many we love about New Hampshire is Lakes of the Clouds in Sargent's Purchase. Even if the weather is cold and snowy or warm and sunny, there are so many ways to get outside and have fun here. We especially appreciate that some attractions in the state are extra-special because they're unique and hard to find. This alpine lake in New Hampshire is a great example and, while it isn't the easiest hike to reach it, it's worth every step.
Lakes of the Clouds is located in Mount Washington State Park and while challenging to reach, it's one of the most beautiful natural attractions in New Hampshire!
While many people mistakenly believe it's made up of just one lake, it's actually a series of lakes and ponds sitting between Mount Washington and Mount Monroe.
Sitting at a height of 5,032 feet above sea level, this alpine setting is truly gorgeous.
Lakes of the Clouds New Hampshire is also where you'll find the most popular Appalachian Mountain Club hut used for hikers who want to spend the night. Book in advance to get a bed and enjoy a home-cooked meal while you're there!
The hut also makes for an easy jumping-off point to explore.
You'll just need to get there first!
If you plan on hiking there and back in one day, it's recommended you take the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail.
The start of this New Hampshire hike is at Base Station Road in Jefferson.
While the route to the hut is only about three miles, the hike will take about three hours, and be prepared for steep terrain and some rocks.
This trail is one of the most challenging in the state but it leads to the most beautiful alpine lake in New Hampshire and that's what's most important!
Another one of the New Hampshire hikes, the Lakes of the Clouds 4.4-mile trail, is also considered challenging, so if you take it, be sure you're ready for the journey. Have you taken any of these hikes near Lake of the Clouds New Hampshire? Please let us know in the comments below.
