I was fortunate to spend my time as a kid on the coast of Massachusetts. My introduction to fishing was tying off to a channel buoy and casting for striped bass with my dad and grandfather. New Hampshire's rivers, lakes, and ponds, however, are much easier to get to if you don't want to invest in your own boat! Fortunately, you don't need one to enjoy this New Hampshire fishing spot located in the city of Concord.
Concord's Turkey Pond (sometimes called Great Turkey Pond) and its sibling Little Turkey Pond lie on the western edge of the capital city.
The two ponds are connected by a narrow channel and water levels are controlled by a small dam at Turkey Pond.
While mostly popular with hikers and nature walkers, both ponds also offer ample opportunities for anglers.
One of the easiest access points to Turkey Pond is from New Hampshire Audubon's McLane Center and Silk Farm Wildlife Sanctuary on Silk Farm Rd., not far from Exit 2 off Interstate 89. The pond can also be reached from a boat launch off Rt. 13, a little over a mile south of I-89.
From the McLane Center, a small network of attractive hiking trails lead to the shoreline of Turkey Pond.
Both ponds are classified as a warmwater fishery and are populated with species such as largemouth bass.
Pickerel, horned pout, and bullhead can also be found swimming the waters of the ponds, which cover a total of 332 acres.
