When summer hits the Granite State, all you want to do is go to the beach. Whether that means being seaside, on a lake, or even on a river, it's important to know where to find the best - and least crowded - beaches in New Hampshire. Here are 10 little known beaches in New Hampshire that you must visit this summer.
Jenness Beach, Rye
Ok, this one is pretty well known, but so are most beaches along New Hampshire's short coast! At Jenness state beach you can still enjoy the quiet of an abandoned beach on occasion, especially if you're willing to visit in the evening.
2. Mascoma Lake Beach, Enfield
Beaches aren't too common in western New Hampshire, but this small public beach in Enfield is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.
3. Town Beach, Sandwich (Note, this beach can only be used by residents and taxpayers of Sandwich, NH. It is not open to the general public.)
Squam Lake is often overlooked in favor of the larger Lake Winnipesaukee to the south, but it is a great place to spend an afternoon enjoying beautiful freshwater swimming.
4. Seabrook Beach, Seabook
Seabrook is the southernmost beach in New Hampshire, and although it is well-known it isn't easy to access. Limited parking and limited public access ways mean that the beach is much less crowded than Hampton Beach. If you're willing to fight for parking or park a bit further away, you'll be rewarded with a quieter beach.
5. Great Island Common, New Castle
New Castle is often forgotten in the shadow of the better-known Portsmouth, but the island town is charming and full of great, unknown beaches. It also has a rocky but beautiful town beach at Great Island Common.
6. Sunapee State Beach, Newbury
Sunapee is a well-known state beach, but it deserves a mention because the beach is so large and sandy that you'll feel as if you're at the ocean. With boat rentals, a concession stand and a playground, this beach has everything a family could need.
7. Richardson Park, Swanzey
This town-owned beach on Swanzey Lake is perfect for a quick dip or an afternoon destination.
8. Kezar Lake, Sutton
This beach in Wadleigh State Park is perfect for picnicking. The tree-lined shore provides shade, and the clear waters of Kezar lake are perfect for swimming.
9. Silver Lake, Hollis
Even if you don't like swimming, Silver Lake State Park is worth a visit just for the views. Simply stunning. Of course, the swimming it great too.
10. Echo Lake State Park, North Conway
Echo Lake is well-known, but worth a mention for it's view. If you're looking for the experience of swimming in the beautiful White Mountains, this is the beach for you.
