A lot of people talk about "these days" requiring more peace and quiet and calm. But we think people are in need of these things all the time. And if you're in New Hampshire you're pretty lucky that the beauty and landscape of the state offers just the kind of calm we crave. The next time you need a bit of relaxation in the form of nature make your way to the Jefferson area for a visit to this spot.
For a remote escape in Coos County make your way to the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge. The refuge offers 6,405 acres of beauty waiting to be explored and discovered by those looking for some of the most rugged landscape in the state.
The refuge offers one of the best views of the Presidential Range. That, on its own, is a great reason to visit!
But we also love that the entire refuge offers a mix of ponds, wetlands, and forests. This is a great place to visit if you'd like to understand more about New Hampshire's ecosystem.
There are a few trails that offer access to the many far-off corners of the refuge so it's worth coming back season-after-season to check them all out.
But we particularly love the former railroad tracks that offer a great way to easily navigate throughout.
One of the most beautiful areas of the refuge is Cherry Pond which offers a viewing platform that's perfect for taking everything in.
And while some people might think exploring the outdoors is best reserved for warmer seasons, we love this place in the winter! The trails are still open and the landscape is unbeatable.
Just look at the snow-capped mountains that you just won't find at any other time of year!
The Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge is open year-round and we love visiting each season to see just how much the landscape can change. To learn more about it you can visit the New Hampshire Audubon website. Or, check out alltrails.com to see how you can explore the area.
