It's hard to choose a favorite place to enjoy the great outdoors in a state that's practically made of lovely hidden gems waiting to be discovered. But, when pressed, we have our list of spots we visit repeatedly. This secret nature trail in New Hampshire is special. Not just because it's off-the-beaten path, but because it's gorgeous.
The Sandwich Range Wilderness can be found about an hour south of Mount Washington, near Waterville Valley.
The trail is well-maintained, but it's got enough roots and rocks to make it a little cumbersome to navigate. In the summer, most of it is shaded by tall trees, while winter offers its own beauty and solitude.
Much of the route follows Drake's Brook, leading towards the most beautiful cascade-style waterfall. Along the way hikers will hear the rolling waters guiding them towards the falls.
Although the waterfall is small, the way the water cascades over the rock ledges is relaxing to watch. In the spring the water is likely to be flowing with snowmelt, while the summer and fall will bring a heavier flow after rain.
This secret nature trail in New Hampshire is one of our favorite ways to enjoy the great outdoors. And, as a hidden gem, there's a good chance you'll have the area to yourself.
Fletcher's Cascade Trail is moderately challenging meaning it's best to have some hiking experience before tackling it. You can find the trailhead, which is open throughout the year, in the Sandwich Range Wilderness.

One of the town’s most beautiful gems, Beede Falls, lies in the small Sandwich Town Park. It’s a popular swimming hole in summer but transforms into an icy wonder in winter. The hike begins at the Mead Base Conservation Center in Sandwich and follows a portion of Bearcamp River Trail.
This former 18th-century homestead also serves as a trailhead for access to Mt. Israel and educates visitors about the historical significance of the site.
Along the 0.6-mile walk to Beede Falls, visitors will pass an overhanging ledge known as Cow Cave. Local legend states that a cow allegedly survived a winter by sheltering under the ledge.

This mountain lies in a unique location between the Lakes Region to the south and the higher White Mountain to the north, and offers views of both.
With easy access and a short walk to reach it, Beede Falls is an excellent spot to check out in winter for its icy beauty, or in spring when water levels are high. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
