When winter settles in New Hampshire, and our lakes and ponds start freezing over, there's something sublime to be said about the snow-covered scenery. But some of the most stunning winter sights in the Granite State can be seen when New Hampshire's waterfalls freeze over. These rivers frozen in time are absolutely stunning, and positively glittering in their icy glory. See New Hampshire's frozen waterfalls for yourself:
1. Arethusa Falls, Jackson
New Hampshire's tallest single-drop waterfall becomes a favorite destination for ice climbers during the winter months.
2. Locke Falls, Rochester
This oasis-like cascade tumbles prettily down the Isinglass River typically, but come winter, you might just find it iced over. Keep in mind this is private property.
3. Champney Falls, White Mountain National Forest
A challenging 3-plus mil hike is all it takes to reach the gorgeous Champney Falls, which is stunning surrounded by winter scenery.
4. Bridal Veil Falls, Franconia
Bridal Veil Falls is an absolute stunner. This towering 80-foot waterfall takes a lengthy hike to reach, but offers water views for nearly the entire route.
4. Meriden Covered Bridge, Plainfield
There is nothing plain about these gorgeous falls in Plainfield, which are easily viewable from the street, making them a perfect destination for a freezing cold day! The covered bridge makes this spot extra special.
5. Cloudland Falls, Lincoln
Falling Waters Trail in Lincoln will lead you to this spectacular series of waterfalls, 1.4 miles into the hike.
6. Purgatory Falls, Wilton
Winter doesn't even have to be in full swing to see Purgatory Falls dripping in icicles!
7. Tucker Brook Falls, Millford
It must be really cold to freeze this waterfall solid. Even better, the short and sweet hike to get here is only around one mile.
8. Swiftwater Covered Bridge, Bath
Everything about this spot is just picturesque New Hampshire charm. You'll love it!
9. Jackson Falls, Jackson
Designated as "Wild and Scenic" in 1978, this pretty waterfall also boasts an idyllic swimming hole and has become a local family favorite. Of course, crowds are fewer at Jackson Falls in winter!
11. Rocky Gorge, Albany
One of the most viewed waterfalls in New Hampshire is stunning in the winter. Just off the Kancamangus Highway, Rocky Gorge is easily accessible, not to mention a beautiful drive.
These gorgeous frozen waterfalls in New Hampshire may not be iced over every year, but they certainly provide a gorgeous snapshot of our state's winter beauty!
