If you're just beginning to explore the great outdoors of New Hampshire summer is a great time continue the fun. From the beach to the lakes, forests to trails you're likely to have something to do every day that you want to get outside. Some of our favorite destinations are those that help us cool down and waterfalls are great for that. The ones we've included here are some of our favorites, but by no means are they the only falls you should visit. Start here and then continue the adventure with some of your own!
1. Profile Falls, Bristol
The 25-foot drop of Profile Falls ensures the swimming hole beneath it is constantly moving, making for one of the clearest swimming areas in the state. This refreshing spot doesn't require any hiking, just pull into the parking lot and start having fun. You'll also find restrooms and a picnic area so plan on making a day of it. You can learn more about visiting here.
2. Jackson Falls, Jackson
In its entirety, Jackson Falls features a fall of about 100 feet. Each individual waterfall is beautiful and the area is great for those who aren't looking to swim beneath a giant water source. Best of all you can get to this beauty quite easily by simply parking and walking to it. In fact, you'll be able to see it right from the lot.
3. Diana's Baths, Bartlett
After visiting one of the most popular waterfalls in the state you'll see just why it's so busy! With multiple falls, a refreshing swimming area and the ability to swim right under the running water a visit here offers hours of fun. You can learn more about it here.
4. Lower Falls, Albany
The fact that this waterfall is typically quite busy on a warm and sunny day doesn't make it any less refreshing to visit. Arrive early to get a nice shady spot and enjoy splashing around in the swimming hole all throughout the day. The current here is soft, so it's great for kids and those who are a bit timid in the water.
5. The falls at Emerald Pool, Pinkham's Grant
One of the clearest swimming holes in all of New England also has a lovely little waterfall flowing into it. The 1.6-mile out-and-back trail to find it is fun, leading through a portion of the White Mountains and jumping in is always refreshing. You can learn more about checking out this article.
6. Thompson Falls, Gorham
We love this waterfall because reaching it offers a chance to get nice and sweaty. What's more fun than cooling off when you've really earned it? The route is about 1.5 miles and the waterfall is usually quite large right after it rains. You can learn more about how to hike to find it here.
7. Glen Ellis Falls, Jackson
This 65-foot waterfall is one of the most beautiful in the state. While swimming is not allowed, it's refreshing to simply stand near it and watch the water flow. Visit this one if you'd like to be truly awe-struck!
Do you have a favorite waterfall we haven't included here? Let us know where it is and what's great about it in the comments so we can check it out!
Believe it or not, one of the most refreshing ways to enjoy the state doesn't include jumping into a body of water at all. Instead, walk or ride alongside the ocean on the 3-mile Oriorne Point Loop Trail in New Hampshire!
