The Granite State is fortunate to have a robust network of state parks that offer a wide variety of recreation opportunities. I've personally enjoyed many of them over the years. Some of these parks are more famous and well-known while others are more quiet and under the radar. Northwood Meadows is a New Hampshire state park that falls into the latter category and it provides a beautiful environment for getting out into nature.
Northwood Meadows State Park is a 674-acre park in the town of Northwood. It is open year-round for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, and more.
While not true wilderness, the park does have a wilderness feel and offers a tranquil experience away from the outside world.
A universally-accessible path leads into a vast wetlands area and pond that is the result of a dammed brook.
This is a park where you can bring your dog along with you for a hike, but they must be on a leash because of the resident wildlife.
Walking in the park is generally gentle, making it perfect for explorers of all ages and abilities.
The park's trail network allows for shorter walks to the ponds or longer loop hikes through the backcountry.
Northwood Meadows also serves as a gateway to connecting trail systems such as those on Saddleback Mountain and the Guptill-Lamprey Pasture Conservation Area.

New Hampshire has over 70 state recreation areas and 42 of those are state parks. Here are eight of those parks that are somewhat lesser-known and are worth the visit. From my own adventures, I can attest to the fact that the quieter spots are often the gems!
