Just outside of Las Vegas in Overton sits the majestic Valley of Fire State Park. This geologic wonder is a jaw-dropping collection of stunning colors and unique rock formations. In addition to the more well-known formations like Elephant Rock and the Fire Wave, an unmarked canyon that radiates soft hues of pink—as well as orange, white, and yellow—provides a pastel respite from the vibrant reds throughout the rest of the park. Take a look at these awe-inspiring views in this one-of-a-kind Nevada canyon.
The Valley of Fire State Park sits about an hour northeast of Las Vegas in Overton.
This stunning, 40,000-acre park is known for its sculpted bright red, Jurassic-era sandstone and myriad abstract shapes nestled in tan and gray limestone mountains.
Established in 1935 by the Nevada State Legislature, this area has been occupied by man as long as 2,500 years ago as evidenced by the many petroglyphs decorating the rocks.
The canyon hike is relatively short and easy. While some areas may make for tight passage, it is completely passable. Just keep an eye out for puddles if you visit after it has rained.
Much like the Fire Wave, the Pink Canyon exhibits inviting and visually pleasing swirled colorful rock striations.
Many of the rock formations are truly jaw-dropping.
The colors are simply breathtaking and awe-inspiring.
Make sure to wear good rubber-soled shoes and bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen.
The area can get quite hot; particularly in the summer, so be sure to get an early start.
Many people aren't aware of this canyon (yet), so it's rarely crowded.
The Valley of Fire and its stunning Pink Canyon is a delightful excursion that is educational and fun for the entire family. For more information please call (702) 397-2088 or visit the Valley of Fire's official website.
