The garden was initially established in 1958 by Fred Gallaway who was the official City of Reno horticulturist for more than 25 years.

The Municipal Rose Garden is actually one of only 60 gardens across the country that are officially certified as a National Rose Garden by the American Rose Society.
Official rose gardens must meet specific standards including the number of flowers and beds.
This garden is open throughout the year but is best viewed from May through September, since that's when the roses are in bloom.
During the peak of their bloom, the scent of the roses is almost overwhelming! It's simply bliss.
